The Salvation Army Education and Employment runs two intensive full-time ILN ESOL courses in Auckland, aimed at refugees and migrants at risk. There are two semesters per year and students are encouraged to take the English they learn out into the community.
1. ESOL FOR WORK AND STUDY, LEVEL 1
This course provides a solid foundation in English grammar with an emphasis on preparing students for higher tertiary or PTE study; and helping those who need it with the basic English skills they need for finding work.
This course integrates grammar, writing and speaking into a range of vocabulary topic modules that are focussed on Kiwi culture and society. Students have the opportunity of choosing some learning modules that are of interest to them.
2. ESOL FOR EVERYDAY LIFE, LEVEL 1
This course is for lower-level students who have some English but need more confidence in tackling day to day life in New Zealand. The course covers all aspects of basic pronunciation, speaking, listening, grammar and writing; and gives students the opportunity of progressing to the Education and Employment’s higher ESOL for Work and Study course.
